The Santa Monica Jail is located within the Santa Monica Police Department at 333 Olympic Dr, Santa Monica, CA 90401. Their phone number is (310) 458-8482.
The Santa Monica Jail, situated within the Santa Monica Police Department, functions as a holding facility for men and women arrested in the city by the Santa Monica Police Department or the California Highway Patrol.
People who are arrested are temporarily held at this facility until they are released on their own recognizance (O.R. release), post bail, or are taken to court for their arraignment. The facility is equipped to handle a variety of cases, from minor offenses to more serious crimes, and provides necessary facilities and services for inmates during their stay.
After their first court date, male defendants who remain in custody will typically be transferred to the Los Angeles Twin Towers Jail or the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail. Female defendants will be transferred to the Century Regional Detention Facility. This is typical for those who cannot post bail or have been convicted of their offense.
How to Post Bail
Once an inmate has been booked into the Santa Monica Jail, their bail will be set according to the Los Angeles County Bail Schedule and based on the crime for which they were arrested.
Bail is the amount of money designed to assure the arresting agency and court that the defendant will appear in court as scheduled after being released from jail.
If you choose to post bail for an inmate, the Santa Monica Jail accepts cash bail and bail bonds. The Jail is not allowed to refer you to specific bail bondsmen.
Most people don't have the funds to post cash bail or a cashier's check. Thus, posting a bail bond is the most common method for releasing someone from jail. When you post bail, you are only required to pay a maximum of 10% of the total bail amount.
If the defendant makes all of his court appearances, you do not have to pay anymore. But you do not get that 10% back. If the inmate doesn't make those appearances, you will be liable for repaying the entire bail amount to the bondsman. It typically takes 1-2 hours for an inmate to be released from custody at the Santa Monica Street Jail.
